If Harley made a plane it wouldn't get off the ground... till someone had taken off all the unnecessary crap of it and tuned the engines to give a little more power than a Chinese 125!
Flew Aeroflot back from Moscow some years ago, was marvelous and unlike the people who had insisted on flying BA we got fed ( BA having just lost a game of dare with their catering company!). Astana airways in Kazakhstan, now that was a scary flight!
Don't think HD ever built one, but people are and have been building them since the '20's. Wheelsthroughtime site has an article about one from the twenties. www,youtube.com/watch?V=vis45EByKNE and www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSTRIAx_YSc for some HD powered lightplanes. My father and I buillt a VW powered plane in the sixties. It always amazes me how loud homebuilt planes are. Ours had 4 short straight pipes and no mufflers.
My favourite bike-engined plane was one I saw which had been built to get over the Berlin Wall. It used two MZ 250cc 2-stroke engines . The idea was not to fly as such, just get up and over the wall. Never used, though, so we'll never know if it would have worked.
