Beemerz

Being rather bored at work I popped along to the nearby BMW dealers at lunchtime for a wander around and to look at the bikes.

Much as expected, all the usual big traillies and expensive aftermarket luggage and clothing for your long-distance trip to the local coffee shop were on display inside. I was, however, rather taken with this smart F800R sitting in the forecourt. Not what I associate with BMW at all.

Two Decades Apart

BMW R100RS (1993)
Triumph Tiger 955i (2014)
Two trips, two decades apart, to Applecross in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands.

The roadsign shown is at the foot of the infamous Bealach-na-ba the former drover's road over the pass to the village of Applecross.

Beasts From the East

UK 'biker lifestyle' magazine cover featuring a Ural Soviet Knight 650 and a Dnepr Pheonix 650. Both of these were variants of the base model 650cc flat twins created by importers Nevals in the 90s.

Picture Perfect

A slightly unusual view of Eilean Donan Castle taken from the other side of Loch Long.

Photographs usually show it from the opposite side. This was on the way home from a motorcycle rally held further north at Gairloch, in Wester Ross, Scotland.

Lois Pryce - Adventurer

I first encountered Lois Pryce by way of her first book about riding the length of the Americas on a tiny Yamaha XT 225 Serow. It made much more sense than attempting to muscle one of the current crop of 'adventure tourers'

Her latest book, 'Revolutionary Ride on the Road to Shiraz the Heart of Iran', is out in paperback in Persian tile blue on 8th March.
