It’s not just south-east Asia where small capacity scooters and mopeds are popular.
This was taken in Sorrento, Italy while on holiday. Note the Piaggo Ape van in the middle of the road. There are extremely common and are used by any number of small businesses for deliveries.
The normal way of creating a space to park your scooter is to ram it into the narrow gap between two that are already parked until you make a hole big enough to get yours in. The damage done while doing this has to be seen to be believed.
