Impromptu Bike Show

As mentioned in the last post, I came across a bit of a bike show in Kirkcaldy yesterday.

As I had time to kill before the football I went for a wander and was attracted by the sound of racing engines and tannoy announcements. Also, there seemed to be a large number of bikes all heading in that same direction.

On the seafront they had a mini-moto track set up and a number of stalls for local motorcycle businesses and clubs, but it was the bikes just parked up that caught my eye. A nice mix of the old, the modern and the exotic - see the pictures.

And what was it all about? Well, I had to go online later in the day to find out. It was a re-introduction of beach races for a celebration of 90 years of the Kirkcaldy and District Motor Club. 

Dancing in the Streets of Raith Tonight

I had an interesting day yesterday. I attended my first football match in years and in the process came across a bike show I didn’t know about (more of which later).

The football match was a bit of a culture shock, being between two lower league sides, Raith Rovers and Hamilton Academicals, in Scottish Division 1 in quite a small, half empty stadium with a crowd of just over 1800 attending. Contrast that with the last time I was at a match, then it was between Celtic FC and FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in Glasgow before a noisy packed house of 60,000.

Anyway, I quite enjoyed the game, which Rovers won by 2 - 0, even if there wasn’t too much evidence of the beautiful game on display at this level.

Note: the post heading refers to a comment made by a radio commentator which led to much hilarity many years ago. Raith Rovers had achieved a notable and quite unexpected victory against European competition, and the commentator stated that he assumed that there would be "Dancing in the streets of Raith tonight". However, Raith isn’t a place. Raith Rovers are a football team and they come from the town of Kirkcaldy in Fife.

Everyone's New Favourite Bike

Spotted at The Coupes Moto Legendes in Dijon recently, these cool art-deco machines are from the French manufacturer Majestic.

I still think that they look a bit like a Basking Shark from the front.

Altogether, a good weekend away with a great bunch of folk despite the weather, it having rained pretty much all the way home again. Oh, when will we ever get some dry riding weather?
