My first and only trip to the Isle of Man in 84 was on gold 78 model. It felt a bit strange to start with after riding my Kawasaki Z1000ST, but soon got into it. Not every ones cup of tea, but would have one in a minute......
A friend has a silver one that shocked both of us the first time we rode it. Compared to his '66 R-50 it felt like a rocket ship....with a 'clunk' on the shift. I'd have one, or an earlier R 90.
Had one about 20 years ago and rode it all year round. Did everything that I asked of it, but somehow it never impressed me that much. I always thought that it should be better. However, if I were to be in the market for an older machine then a Boxer would probably make the shortlist, for build quality and because it would likely have been looked after more than some other marques.

ReplyDeleteRode a K100 from Banbury to Edinburgh and back; first time on a BMW and thought it was pretty good. Though I'd rather get a R75 or R90.
